Fuel Pressure Release: Service and Repair

To reduce the risk of fire and personal injury, it is necessary to relieve the fuel system pressure before servicing fuel system components.

After relieving the fuel system pressure a small amount of fuel may be released when servicing fuel lines or connections. In order to
reduce the chance of personal injury, cover fuel line fittings with a shop towel before disconnecting, to catch any fuel that may leak out.
Place the shop towel in an approved container when the disconnect is complete.
Fuel Pressure Gauge
PROCEDURE:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid possible fuel discharge if an accidental attempt is made to start the engine.
2. Loosen the fuel filler cap to relieve tank pressure.
3. On the 5.7L (VIN 8), remove the MAP sensor and MAP sensor bracket to access the fuel; pressure valve.
4. Connect the J 34730-1 to the fuel pressure valve. Wrap a shop towel around the fitting while connecting the gauge to avoid spillage.
5. Install a bleed hose into an approved container and open the valve slowly to relieve system pressure. Fuel connections are now safe for servicing.
6. Drain any fuel remaining in the gauge into an approved container.
NOTE: After repairs are complete, tighten the fuel cap.
