MPFI Fuel Injector And Retainer Clip
WARNING: To reduce the hazard of fire and personal injury that may result from a fuel leak, always replace O-ring seals exposed during
component service.
CAUTION: Use care in removing the injectors to prevent damage to the nozzles and the electrical connector pins. The fuel injector is serviced as a
complete assembly only. Since it is an electrical component, it should not be immersed in any type of cleaner.
REMOVAL:
1.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2.
Relieve the fuel system pressure, see MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3.
Remove the intake plenum and runners, see INTAKE PLENUM AND RUNNERS.
4.
Remove the fuel rail assembly, see FUEL RAIL ASSEMBLY.
5.
Rotate the fuel injector retainer clip to the release position.
6.
Remove the MPFI injectors.

NOTE: There are two injector part numbers used in production for the 5.0L V8 engine, and two different part numbers for the 5.7L V8 engine.
Do not intermix injectors with different part numbers, as this will result in engine roughness and excessive emissions.

When ordering individual replacement fuel injectors, be sure to order the identical part number that is inscribed on the old injector. If a
complete set of injectors is being replaced, either part number specified for that engine application may be used.
7.
Remove the O-ring seals from both ends of the injector, and discard.
8.
Discard the old injector retainer clips.
INSTALLATION:
1.
Lubricate new injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil, and install them on the injectors.
2.
Install new retainer clips on the injectors.
3.
Insert each fuel injector assembly into the fuel rail injector socket, with the electrical connector facing outward.
4.
Rotate the fuel injector retaining clips to the locking position.
5.
Install the fuel rail assembly.
