Throttle Body: Service and Repair
Throttle Body Injection (TBI) Unit
1985-88 V6 ENGINES
Removal
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Disconnect THERMAC hose from engine fitting.
3.
Disconnect electrical connectors from idle control valve, throttle position sensor and the injectors, then remove injector harness and grommet from
TBI unit.
4.
Disconnect throttle cable, return spring, transmission control cable and cruise control cable, if equipped.
5.
Disconnect vacuum hoses from throttle body, noting positions for proper installation.
6.
Disconnect fuel feed and return lines from throttle body unit.
7.
Remove three hold-down bolts securing TBI to manifold and remove unit from manifold.
Installation
1.
Ensure throttle body to intake manifold sealing surface is clean.
2.
Install new throttle body to manifold gasket.
3.
Install throttle body on intake manifold.
4.
Install injector harness and grommet on TBI unit.
5.
Install air cleaner gasket on TBI unit.
6.
Install throttle body attaching bolts, torquing alternately to 26 ft. lbs.
7.
Install fuel feed and return lines to throttle body, torquing to 23 ft. lbs.
8.
Connect electrical connectors to idle air control, TPS and injectors.
9.
Connect throttle cable, return spring, transmission control cable and cruise control cable.
10.
Install air cleaner.
11.
Start engine and check for fuel leaks.
