CONDITION:
Customers of the above vehicles may notice a rattling or clicking noise coming from the flywheel area while the engine is running. This noise may be
more apparent when the engine is cold.
CAUSE:
This noise may be caused by the interference between the torque converter cover and the starter. The starter may push the converter cover to contact the
flywheel producing the noise.
CORRECTION:
To correct the above condition. Perform the following:
1.
Remove the torque converter cover.
2.
Using utility knife, or equivalent tool, trim away 5 mm (.20 in.) of material on cover as indicated by the dash line. (see Figure)
3.
Re-install the torque converter cover.
4.
Inspect for interference to verify that sufficient material has been removed.
Note:
If the torque converter cover already has the 71 mm (2.80 in.) opening, it will not be necessary to modify the cover.
