Model and Year:
1992 CAPRICE WITH RPO JA2 BRAKES
THIS BULLETIN CANCELS AND SUPERSEDES DEALER SERVICE BULLETIN NO. 92-249-5, DATED AUGUST 1992. THE VIN HAS BEEN
CORRECTED. ALL COPIES OF 92-249-5 SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
Some owners of 1992 B-car sedans with JA2 brakes may comment on a "clicking" type noise coming from the rear brakes during apply.
CAUSE:
Improper machining creates a "thread like" pattern on the drum braking surface which causes the brake shoes to move out in the drum and then "click or
slap" back on the backing plate.
CORRECTION:
As of the following VIN breakpoints, a new brake drum was released for production on all sedans with JA2 brakes. This drum has a revised surface
finish to reduce "shoe slap" on drum brakes. If a vehicle is found with this condition, REPLACE BOTH brake drums with the new P/N 1244646.
