Malfunction Indicator Lamp: Service and Repair
POWER SUPPLY INTERRUPT METHOD:
Stored trouble codes in the computer can be cleared by disconnecting the battery source from the computer. Turn ignition "Off," remove the
battery negative cable for at least 30 seconds. This method will clear PCM codes as well as other on board memory, such as radio presets etc..
Trouble codes should be cleared after any repairs have been performed. To prevent damage to the computer, the ignition switch must be in the
"Off" position when disconnecting or reconnecting power to the computer.
After the computer memory has been cleared, a change may be noted in vehicle performance. To restore normal vehicle performance, drive with
engine at normal operating temperature, with the accelerator pedal going through idle, part throttle, and moderate acceleration modes until normal
performance is restored.
PCM MEMORY INTERRUPT METHOD:
Depending on how the vehicle is equipped, the PCM memory may be cleared by disconnecting the positive battery terminal "pigtail", or removing
the PCM fuse from the fuse block for 30 seconds.
