Fuel Pump Relay: Description and Operation
Fuel Pump Relay Circuit
PURPOSE
The PCM utilizes the fuel pump relay to control fuel pump operation.
OPERATION
When the ignition switch is on the PCM completes the ground signal to the coil side of the fuel pump relay. The magnetic field generated by the
coil causes the switch portion of the relay to energize the fuel pump circuit.
The fuel pump will remain "ON" as long as the PCM receives low resolution reference pulses from the ignition system. If ignition pulses are not
present the PCM will de-energize the fuel pump circuit in 2-3 seconds after key is turned "ON" or engine stops.
LOCATION
The fuel pump relay is attached to the multi-use relay bracket right rear of engine compartment.
