1983---87 Chevette & 1000 W/Power Steering

1.

Attach bracket (A) to jacket and install the following bolts in sequence: (B), (C), (D) and (E). Then torque bolts in installation sequence to 22 ft.
lbs., Fig. 11.

2.

Attach seal (F) to retainer (G) by pulling ``carrots'' (part of seal F) through holes in retainer (G).

3.

Assemble seal (F) and retainer (G) with bolt (H) after column is through front of dash.

4.

Install steering coupling shield (S) over column.

5.

Mesh splined shaft of steering column with coupling. Splined shaft must be fully engaged into coupling until no splines are visible between
coupling and shaft.

6.

Loosely assemble capsule nuts (J) to within .02---.06 inch of capsule surface.

7.

Attach column to front of dash with screw (M) and washer (N), then torque to 18 inch lbs.

8.

Torque capsule nuts (J) to 20 ft. lbs.

9.

Torque coupling pinch bolt (T) to 30 ft. lbs.

10.

Position steering coupling shield (S) over adapter and secure with screw (U) and nut (V).

11.

With vehicle on ground, minimum clearance between O.D. of shaft end and I.D. of jacket lower bushing should be .1 inch.
