Caliper Removal

1.

Siphon brake fluid from master cylinder to bring level to 1/3 full, discard brake fluid removed.

2.

Raise vehicle and remove wheel and tire assembly.

3.

Install a 7 inch C-clamp on caliper with solid end of clamp on caliper housing and screw end on metal portion of outboard brake shoe. Tighten
clamp until piston bottoms in caliper bore, then remove clamp.

4.

Disconnect brake hose from caliper and remove copper gaskets, cap end of brake hose. If only brake shoes are to be replaced do not disconnect
brake hose.

5.

Remove the two mounting brackets to steering knuckle bolts, Fig. 3. Do not remove socket head retaining bolt. Support caliper when
removing second bolt to prevent caliper from falling.

6.

Slide caliper from rotor. If only brake shoes are to be replaced support caliper from suspension using wire. Do not stretch or kink brake
hose.
