CAUTION: With a pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature in the radiator can be considerably higher than the boiling point of the
solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of the surge tank cap, while the cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes the solution to
boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause the solution to spew out over the engine, the fenders, and the person removing the cap.
Serious bodily injury may result.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (2.0L (LSJ)) Draining and Filling Cooling System (2.2L (L61), 2.4L
(LE5)) Draining and Filling Cooling System (GE 47716 Fill) in Cooling System.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Place a drain pan under the water pump drain port.
4. Loosen the water pump drain bolt and drain the coolant from the water pump.
5. Close and tighten the water pump drain bolt.
Tighten the water pump drain bolt to 10 N.m (88 lb in).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
6. Lower the vehicle.
