Oil Filter: Service and Repair

Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug.
3. Remove the oil pan drain plug.
4. Allow the oil to drain completely.

5. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the oil pan drain plug.

Tighten the plug to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

6. Important: DO NOT use an open end wrench on the hex on top of the oil filter cap.

Use a 32 mm (1 1/4 inch) socket on the hex on top of the oil filter cap, or an oil filter wrench on the outside diameter of the oil filter cap. 

7. Remove the oil filter cap and filter.
8. Remove the filter from the cap.
