Drum Brake Adjustment

J 21177-A Drum to Brake Shoe Clearance Gage

Caution:  Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions.  

Important  The rear brakes must be adjusted manually after replacing the rear brake shoes.

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Loosen the adjuster nut for the park brakes.
3. Remove the brake drum. 

4. Using the J 21177-A, measure the inside, diameter of the brake drum.

Important  When performing the following service procedure, ensure that the J 21177-A is level, before taking the measurement.
