Evaporator Core: Service and Repair
TOOL REQUIRED (or equivalent)

J-38100-C A/C refrigerant recovery and recycling station.
REMOVAL
1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint SIR airbag as outlined in Maintenance Procedures / airbag Deactivation.
WARNING: Failure to do disable the SIR airbag may result in accidental deployment of airbag, possibly causing personal injury.
2. Discharge and recover refrigerant.
3. Disconnect the battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove the front exhaust shield, then the three cradle cross brace attaching bolts and swing brace to the side.
5. Remove A/C lines from evaporator, discarding "O" rings then lower vehicle.
6. Remove the under dash insulator panel from right side.
7. Remove electrical junction box from heater core cover, then the left side insulator panel.
8. Remove steering column filler, then partially remove shift console if equipped.
9. Remove the floor duct, heater core cover, shroud, then the straps.
NOTE: The heater core will be suspended by the heater core pipes at this point. Do NOT apply any downward pressure on the heater core, or
damage may occur to the heater core pipes.
10. Remove evaporator assembly.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the evaporator assembly.
2. Install the heater core shroud, then the straps.
3. Install the heater core cover, then the floor duct.
4. Install the steering column filler, then the left side insulator panel.
5. Connect the electrical junction box to the heater core cover.
6. Install the right side under dash insulator panel and the console.
7. Enable the SIR airbag as outlined in Maintenance Procedures / airbag Activation.
8. Evacuate and recharge system with 1.02 kg (2.25 lbs) of R-12.
