Disabling the SIR System
WARNING: The diagnostic energy reserve module or sensing and diagnostic module (DERM/SDM) can maintain enough voltage to cause
air bag deployment for up to two minutes after the ignition switch is turned off and the battery is disconnected. Servicing the SIR system
during this period may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.
1. Ensure front wheels are pointed straight ahead.
2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
3. Remove SIR or AIR BAG fuse (fuse No. 3 on 1995-96 models).
4. Remove left sound insulator. If necessary, remove courtesy lamp from sound insulator.
5. Disconnect Connector Position Assurance (CPA) and yellow 2-way connector at base of steering column.
6. Wait at least 2 minutes before proceeding with diagnosis or service.
Enabling the SIR System

during this period may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.
1. Connect yellow 2-way SIR electrical connector, then install Connector Position Assurance (CPA).
2. Install lefthand sound insulator. If necessary, install courtesy lamp to sound insulator.
3. Install SIR fuse (1995-96 fuse 3), then turn ignition key to the RUN position, ensure Inflatable Restraint lamp flashes seven to nine times and then
turns off. If lamp does not operate as specified, refer to System Diagnosis.
