Bearing Replacement and Adjustment, and Spindle Installation
1. With the spindle assembly on a bench, place the two halves of J-24489-l into position between the outer bearing and the oil seal.
2. Mount 1-8433-1 to 1-24489-1 and draw bearing off spindle.
3. Remove outer oil seal from spindle shaft and inspect for damage. Replace if necessary.
4. Remove the outer races from the spindle support and install new ones, using 1-7817 for reinstallation.
5. Pack new bearings with EPB-2 bearing lubricant, or equivalent.
6. Check bearing end play as measured in step 5 of Wheel Bearing End Play Check, use the same adjusting shim thickness, as the original. If end
play was not within limits, use the following steps to determine the proper shim thickness:
Wheel Bearing End-Play Check
The tapered-roller spindle bearings should have end play of .003 to .20 mm (.001"to .008"). During inspection, check end play and, when
necessary, adjust as outlined in this section.
1. Raise vehicle on hoist, being careful not to bend the strut rods.
2. Disengage bolt lock tabs and disconnect outboard end of axle drive shaft from wheel spindle flange.
3. Mark camber cam in relation to bracket. Loosen and turn camber bolt until strut rod forces torque control arm outward. Position loose end of
axle drive shaft to one side for access to spindle.
