Important:
The function test portion of this procedure should ONLY be used on:
^
1997-2004 Corvette with a manual transmission
^
1997-2004 Corvette with an automatic transmission - export only
^
2001-2004 Corvette with an automatic transmission - European only
Important:
This procedure should ONLY be used on Corvettes that have had product safety recall 04006B (Electronic Column Lock System) completed.
If 04006B has not been completed, it MUST be completed first.
Removal Procedure
Caution:
Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1.
Disable the SIR System. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
Important:
Let the SIR coil hang freely after removal.
2.
Remove the SIR coil from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Inflator Module Coil Replacement in SIR.
3.
Remove the wave washer (1) from the steering shaft assembly (2).
4.
Compress the cam orientation plate using J 23653-SIR (2) and J 42137 (1).
5.
Remove the bearing retainer from the steering shaft assembly.
