Subject: OnStar(R) Status LED Illuminated Red (Repair Coax Connector)
Models:
2009-2010 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition
Some customers may comment that OnStar(R) status LED is illuminated red. Upon performing a DTC check, a B2470 code may be found in the
OnStar(R) Vehicle Communication Interface Module (VCIM).
Cause
This condition may be caused by a poor connection between the cellular coax connector and the VCIM. This may be caused by side loading of the coax
connector due to the coax cable routing in the vehicle.
Correction
Use the following procedure to relieve the strain and side loading on the coax connector and improve the connection between the VCIM and the coax
connector.
1. Remove the right side instrument panel insulator panel to access the VCIM. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement in SI.
2. Disconnect the cellular coax cable from the VCIM.
3. Gently pull on the coax to expose as much cable as possible.
4. Using a small screwdriver or pick, apply slight inward pressure to the metallic "fingers" of the connector to verify that the connection will be tight
when plugged to the module. Also verify that the center pin is straight before reconnecting to module.
5. To prevent the connector from stretching open, install two wraps of electricians' tape tightly around the white connector housing as shown. Make
sure that tape is clear of the connector opening. To prevent any interference with the electrical connection, the maximum tape width is 19 mm (3/4
in).
6. Reconnect the coax to the VCIM.
7. Ensure that there is no side tension or pull on the cable connection.
8. Reinstall the right side instrument panel insulator panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement in SI.
9. If the cellular coax connection is still loose after this repair is performed, it will be necessary to replace the coax assembly.
