Steering Shaft: Service and Repair

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT 

1. Position the intermediate shaft cover for access to the lower shaft pinch bolt. Turn the steering wheel to the shaft position to allow access to the

bolt through the engine compartment.

2. The intermediate shaft retaining bolt from the steering gear stub shaft.
3. Reposition the intermediate shaft seal to gain access to the upper intermediate shaft bolt.

4. The intermediate shaft retaining bolt from the steering column.

5. The intermediate shaft from the vehicle.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. The intermediate shaft to the vehicle.
2. The intermediate shaft retaining bolt to the steering column.

Tighten the intermediate shaft bolt to the steering column 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).

3. The intermediate shaft cover to the steering column.
4. The intermediate shaft retaining bolt to the steering gear stub shaft.

-

Tighten the intermediate shaft retaining bolt to the steering gear stub shaft to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.).
