Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.8L, and 5.3L )

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle   .
2. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connections from catalytic converter pipe. 
3. Remove the exhaust hanger bolts and hanger from the transmission.
4. Remove the nuts and the seals retaining the catalytic converter pipe to the exhaust manifolds.

Caution:  Refer to Exhaust Service Caution  .
Caution:  Refer to Protective Goggles and Gloves Caution  .

5. Remove the flange nuts from the catalytic pipe to the muffler.
6. Remove the catalytic converter from the vehicle.
7. Remove the oxygen sensors as necessary. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor Replacement - Bank 1 Sensor 1   .
