Brake Rotor/Disc: Service and Repair
Brake Rotor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle with suitable safety stands.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal (Excessively Tight Wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
3. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
4. Remove the wheel bearings. Refer to Wheel Hub, Bearing.
5. Remove the rotor.
6. Inspect and clean all of the parts. Replace the parts as necessary.
7. Refinish the rotor if required. Refer to Refinishing Brake Rotors in Disc Brakes.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the rotor.
2. Install the wheel bearings. Refer to Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement.
3. Install the brake caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
4. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Wheel Removal (Excessively Tight Wheels) in Tires and Wheels.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Depress the brake pedal.
7. Burnish the front brake rotors and pads. Refer to Burnishing Pads and Rotors in Disc Brakes.
