Pitman Seals
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Mark the position of the pitman arm to the pitman shaft.
2. The pitman arm.
3. The nut from the steering gear.
4. The washer lock using snap ring pliers.

Position the drain pan under the steering gear.

Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop, using a 12 point socket to drain the power steering fluid from the steering gear.
5. The retaining ring from the steering gear.
6. The back-up washer and seal from the steering gear.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Lubricate the new seal with power steering fluid.
2. The seal and back-up washer to the steering gear.
Installing Pitman Shaft Seals
3. Using J 6219 seat the seal into the steering gear.
4. The retaining ring to the steering gear.

The seal should be in far enough to install the snap ring.
5. The washer lock using snap ring pliers.
6. The nut to the steering gear.
Tighten
^
The nut to 47 Nm (35 ft. lbs.).
7. Center the steering gear.
A. Turn the steering wheel until it stops.
B. Turn the steering wheel in the opposite direction until it stops, while counting the number of turns.
C. Turn the wheel back 1/2 the number of turns in the previous Step.
8. The pitman arm.
9. Bleed the power steering system.
