Pinion Flange: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE

J8614-01 Companion Flange Holder and Remover

J22388 Pinion Oil Seal Installer (9 1/2 inch ring gear)

J22836 Pinion Oil Seal Installer (8 5/8 inch ring gear)
CAUTION: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Raise the vehicle and suitably support the vehicle with safety stands.
2. Remove the propeller shaft from the pinion flange.
IMPORTANT: Observe and accurately mark the positions of all driveline components relative to the propeller shaft and axles prior to
disassembly. These components include the propeller shaft, drive axles, pinion flanges, output shafts, etc. Reassemble all components in the exact
relationship the components had to each other during removal. Follow specifications and torque values. Follow any measurements made prior to
disassembly.
3. Make an alignment mark on the pinion stem, pinion nut and pinion flange (1).
4. Hold the pinion flange using the J8614-01.
5. Remove the pinion nut from the yoke.
