Caution: Refer to Pinion Flange/Yoke Installation Caution (See: Service Precautions/Vehicle Damage Warnings/Pinion Flange/Yoke
Installation Caution).
Note: Align the reference marks and install the drive pinion yoke.
3. Using a soft faced hammer, install the drive flange (1) onto the pinion shaft until a few treads show through the drive flange (1).
4. Install the washer (2) and the nut (3).
Note: If the rotating torque is exceeded, the pinion will have to be removed and a new collapsible spacer installed.
5. Using and holding the J 8614-01 - holder/remover, tighten the pinion nut until the pinion end play is just taken up. Rotate the pinion while
tightening the nut to seat the bearing.
Note: Compare this measurement with the rotating torque prior to removing the drive flange.
6. Using an inch-pound torque wrench, tighten the nut in small increments, as needed, until the rotating torque is 0.40-0.57 Nm (3-5 lb in) greater
