Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Replacement

Tools Required

J 44644 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Remover

J 44645 Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer toCrankshaft Balancer Replacement  (See: Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft

Pulley/Service and Repair/Crankshaft Balancer Replacement) .

2. Install the J 44644  to the crankshaft front oil seal. The jaws of the J 44644  fit into the inner sleeve of the front oil seal.
3. Using the J 44644  , remove the crankshaft front oil seal.

Installation Procedure

1. Clean the front crankshaft seal bore and the crankshaft.
2. Lubricate the crankshaft sealing surface with clean engine oil.
3. Place the crankshaft front oil seal onto the crankshaft.
4. Install the J 44645  to the crankshaft.
5. Press the crankshaft front oil seal onto the crankshaft using the J 44645  until the tool bottoms out.
6. Remove the J 44645  . 
7. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement  (See: Cylinder Block Assembly/Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft
