Water Pump: Service and Repair

CAUTION:  When adding coolant, It Is important that you use GM Goodwrench DEX-COOL (tm) coolant. If coolant other than DEX-COOL (tm) Is
added to the system the coolant will require change sooner at 50,000km (30,000 miles) or 24 months.

REMOVE

1. Drain the coolant, partially. 
2. The air cleaner from the vehicle.
3. The coolant recovery reservoir. 
4. The upper fan shroud.
5. The fan and clutch from the engine.
6. The serpentine belt.
7. The coolant pump retaining bolts/nuts and pulley.
8. The lower radiator hose from the coolant numb
9. The by-pass hose from the coolant pump.

10. The coolant pump retaining bolts.
11. The coolant pump and gasket.
12. Clean the coolant pump mating surfaces.

INSTALL

1. The gasket and coolant pump.
2. The coolant pump retaining bolts.

Tighten the coolant pump retaining bolts to 41 Nm (30 inch lbs.).

^

Tighten the coolant pump plate retaining bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.).

3. The by-pass hose to the coolant pump.
4. The lower radiator hose to the coolant pump.
5. The coolant pump pulley.
5. The fan and clutch to the engine.

Tighten the fan and clutch retaining bolt/nuts to 57 Nm (42 ft. lbs.).

6. The serpentine belt. 
7. The upper fan shroud.
8. The coolant recovery reservoir.
9. The air cleaner from the vehicle.

10. Refill the coolant.
11. Bleed the coolant system of air.
12. Inspect for coolant leaks.
