Camshaft: Service and Repair
Removal

J 5825 A Crankshaft Sprocket Remover, Or Equivalent 

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from the battery negative terminal. 
2. Remove the coolant reservoir.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly and intake duct.
4. Remove the grille. 
5. Remove the air conditioning condenser. 
6. Remove the engine front cover.
7. Remove the intake manifold.  
8. Remove the pushrods and valve lifters. 
9. Align the timing marks.

10. Remove the crankshaft position sensor reluctor ring.
11. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
12. Remove the camshaft sprocket and timing chain. The sprocket is a light interference fit on the camshaft. Tap the sprocket on its lower edge to

loosen it.

13. Remove the crankshaft sprocket (if required). Use the crankshaft sprocket remover. 
14. Remove the camshaft retainer plate and bolts.
