Valve Cover: Service and Repair
Removal

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from the battery negative terminal.  
2. Remove the engine cover. 
3. Remove the coolant reservoir. 
4. Remove the air cleaner assembly and the intake duct. 
5. Remove the spark plug wires. 
6. Disconnect the wiring harness and electrical connectors, then move aside.
7. Remove the following components for access to the right hand valve rocker arm cover

The purge solenoid and vacuum lines 

-

The crankcase vent hose 

-

The oil level indicator tube and bracket 

-

The air cleaner vent tube 

-

The oil fill tube

8. Remove the following components for access to the left hand valve rocker arm cover 

a. The air conditioning compressor and lay aside. 
b. The EGR valve inlet pipe
c. The PCV and the hose

9. Remove the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

10. Remove the valve rocker arm cover and the gasket.
11. Clean all traces of old gasket from the valve rocker arm cover and the cylinder head.

Inspect the valve rocker arm cover sealing surface for distortion. Replace the valve rocker arm cover if necessary.
