Control Arm: Service and Repair
Lower Control Arm and Bushing

Tool Required:

J 23742 Ball Joint Separator

-

Or Equivalent

Remove or Disconnect 

1. The nut from the lower ball joint stud.

Separate the lower ball joint. Refer to "Lower Ball Joint."

2. The control arm from the knuckle.
3. The coil spring. Refer to "Coil Spring."
4. The nuts and bolts from the lower control arm pivot joints.
5. The lower control arm.
6. The bushings using a press.

Install or Connect

NOTICE:  Always use the correct fastener In the proper location. When you replace a fastener, use ONLY the exact part number for that application.
The manufacturer will call out those fasteners that require a replacement after removal. The manufacturer will also call out the fasteners that require
thread lockers or thread sealant. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, do not use supplemental coatings (paints, greases, or other corrosion inhibitors)
on threaded fasteners or fastener joint interfaces. Generally, such coatings adversely affect the fastener torque and joint clamping force, and may
damage the fastener. When you Install fasteners, use the correct tightening sequence and specifications. Following these instructions can help you
avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. The bushings using a press.
2. The control arm to the frame.
3. The new bolts and nuts retaining the lower control arm to the frame.

Tighten the control arm nuts to 155 Nm (115 ft. lbs.).

4. The coil spring.
5. The control arm to the steering knuckle.
6. The nut.

Tighten the control arm to the steering knuckle nut to 128 Nm (94 ft. lbs.).

7. The new cotter pin.
