Cargo Door Latch, Rear/Side - Rattles Over Rough Roads

Rear and Side Cargo Door (RPO E24) Latch Rattles 
(Install New Adjustable Wedge and Nylon Coated Strikers)

Models:

1985-94 Chevrolet and GMC Truck G Vans Built before the breakpoints as shown.

Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattling noise coming from the side swing out and rear cargo door latching mechanism. The rattling condition is
more severe driving over rough roads.

Cause
A significant portion of the rattle can be attributed to a metal to metal contact between the upper and lower latch to striker (variation of striker "play"
within the latch mechanism). This condition may be further aggravated by door chucking due to improper shimming of the door wedges.

Correction
Install a new adjustable wedge (bumper assembly) which will need to be adjusted (no shimming required), to eliminate the shimming variation of the old
wedge. Install a new striker assembly which has been nylon coated.

Notice: 

There is a possibility that when installing the new adjustable wedge onto a vehicle built prior to the above VIN breakpoints. a water leak in the door
openings may occur. This may be due to door to door alignments. If the wedge is used, water test the complete door area to assure that no water leaks
are present.

1. Remove the old bumper assembly and discard shims/spacers if present.

2. Loosen the Allen screw on the bumper assembly and locate bumper at its lowest adjustable point.

3. Install new bumper assembly.

4. Close the door and adjust the bumper assembly by tightening the Allen screw clockwise. The bumper assembly will rotate and adjust to the door

opening. Torque the Allen screw to 5-7 Nm (4-5 lb ft) for proper adjustment.
