Oil Pan: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect batteries and remove engine cover.

2.

Remove engine and transmission oil dipsticks and tubes.

3.

Disconnect T.V. cable at injection pump rod and remove upper routing clips if used.

4.

Remove upper bellhousing to engine retaining bolts.

5.

Remove vacuum pump assembly.

6.

Raise and support vehicle.

7.

Remove driveshaft, then disconnect speedometer cable from transmission.

8.

Disconnect torque converter clutch connector from transmission.

9.

Disconnect transmission shift linkage.

10.

Disconnect transmission cooler lines from transmission.

11.

Remove transmission flex plate inspection cover, then remove torque converter to flex plate retaining bolts.

12.

Support transmission with a suitable jack.

13.

Remove transmission mount, then remove crossmember.

14.

Remove transmission to engine block retaining bolts, then remove transmission.

15.

Remove flex plate.

16.

Drain oil into a suitable container.

17.

Disconnect engine oil cooler lines from engine block.

18.

Remove starter.

19.

Remove oil pan bolts, then lower pan from engine block. It may be necessary to rotate the crankshaft so number one and two crankshaft throws are
up, to gain additional clearance for oil pan removal.

20.

Remove oil pump retaining bolt and allow oil pump assembly to fall into oil pan.

21.

Remove oil pan.

22.

Reverse procedure to install. Tighten oil pan bolts to specification.
