EGR Valve: Description and Operation
EGR Valve
Purpose:
The EGR system lowers the formation of nitrogen oxides by reducing combustion temperature. This is done by introducing exhaust gases into the
cylinders through the EGR valve.
Operation:
The EGR valve introduces the exhaust gases to the incoming fresh air at the engine crossover.
A vacuum pump is used to supply the EGR with vacuum. The DEC system utilizes an ECM which controls a set of solenoids which in turn control
the EGR valve. A MAP sensor is used to measure the amount of absolute pressure in the EGR vacuum line.
Location:
The EGR valve is mounted on the fresh air inlet of the intake manifold.
