K 1500 Suburban 4WD V8-6.5L DSL Turbo VIN F (1999)
Correction
A new door detent link kit, which includes a new rivet, washer, and nut, has been developed to correct this condition. Install a new detent link kit on
affected vehicles. Use the following procedure and the part numbers listed below.
Tools Required
J 36604 Door Hinge Spring Compressor
1.
Remove the door spring using the J 36604, or equivalent.
2.
Using a punch (1), mark a spot for drilling at the top center of the old rivet (4).
Notice:
In the following step, do not drill into the hinge strap or unnecessary, additional repairs may result.
3.
Drill a 1/8 inch pilot hole using an angle head drill. The drill should penetrate the old rivet (4) at least as deep as the top of the old detent link (3).
4.
Drill a 17/64 inch hole to the same depth as in Step 3. The 17/64 inch drill bit is smaller than the rivet diameter so that the hole in the hinge strap
(1) is not damaged during drilling.
