Camshaft: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTICE:  Perform TDC Offset Recovery procedure if the timing chain, timing gears, engine front cover, crankshaft position sensor, crankshaft or
other components affecting the timing are replaced.

1. Disconnect both he battery negative cables from the batteries. Refer to Battery Cable in Powertrain Management.
2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Drain Cock Replacement in Cooling System.
3. Remove the front grille and parking lamp assembly.
4. Evacuate the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating and Air Conditioning.
5. Remove the air conditioning condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating and Air Conditioning.
6. Remove the radiator from the vehicle. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement in Cooling System.
7. Remove the auxiliary engine oil cooler if equipped. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Line Replacement in Cooling System.
8. Remove the upper intake manifold from the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper).
9. Remove the lower intake manifold form the cylinder heads. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement (Lower).

10. Remove the turbocharger from the right exhaust manifold. Refer to. Turbocharger Replacement
11. Remove the right exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Left Side).
12. Remove the left exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement (Right Side).
13. Remove the valve rocker arm covers from the cylinder heads. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement.
14. Remove the valve rocker arms and shaft from the cylinder head. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm, Shaft, and Push Rod Replacement
15. Remove the valve pushrod from the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm, Shaft, and Push Rod Replacement.
16. Remove the cylinder head assembly from the engine block. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement.
17. Remove the oil pump drive from the engine block. Refer to Oil Pump Drive Replacement.
18. Remove the valve lifters from the engine block. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement.
19. Remove the engine front cover from the engine block. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement
20. Remove the timing chain from the engine block. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets Replacement.

21. Remove the camshaft thrust plate and bolts from the engine block.
