Fuel Heater: Testing and Inspection
Fuel Heater Assembly Diagnosis
Fuel Manager/Filter Assembly
Remove or Disconnect:
1. Fuel filler cap to release any pressure or vacuum in the fuel tank.
2. Mounting bolts which attach the fuel manager/filter to the intake manifold.
3. Wiring harnesses and fuel hoses.
4. Fuel manager/filter
Diagnosis:
1. Connect the heater to a variable voltage source and adjust to 12 volts D.C.
2. Wet the heater element with diesel fuel or calibrating fluid.
3. Hold the heater by its lead wires and spray the heater head in the area above the O-ring with freon or other quick freeze aerosol until the heater
element begins to give off a vapor from the heated fuel. This will indicate that the heater switch has closed and the element is heating.
Caution: Do not allow the heater to remain on for longer than 30 seconds, or damage to the heater element may occur.
Install or Connect:
1. A new cap seal onto the heater assembly to header assembly sealing surface. Make sure the sealing surface is clean.
2. Heater assembly and tighten cap nut securely by hand.
3. Fuel hoses and wiring harnesses.
4. Position fuel manager/filter to intake manifold, install bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 ft lbs)
