Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
Replacement
REMOVAL
1. Remove the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the oil level indicator tube on the right side exhaust manifold.
3. Remove the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) inlet pipe on the left side exhaust manifold.
4. Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
5. Remove the exhaust pipe at the exhaust manifold.
6. Remove the heat shields and nuts.
7. Remove the exhaust manifold and nuts.
8. Clean the mating surfaces on the exhaust manifold and on the head.
9. Clean the threads on the exhaust manifold mounting studs.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the exhaust manifold.
2. Install the exhaust manifold nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the spark plug heat shields and nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.
5. Install the spark plugs. Refer to Powertrain Management.
6. Install the EGR inlet pipe (left side exhaust manifold).

Install the oil level indicator tube (right side exhaust manifold).
