Differential Axle Housing: Service and Repair
Aluminum Case Front Drive Axle
1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove skid plate.
2. Drain axle lubricant, if necessary.
3. Disconnect front driveshaft at carrier yoke. Position driveshaft aside.
4. Remove drive axle bolts at carrier output shafts. Position axle shafts aside.
5. Disconnect wiring at axle, then remove vent hose at axle.
6. Remove shaft and tube assembly mounting bolts, then the carrier lower mounting bolt.
7. Remove right side inner tie rod end from relay rod, then the engine oil filter, if necessary.
8. Support carrier with jack, then remove carrier upper mounting bolt.
9. Remove carrier from vehicle.
10. Reverse procedure to install, torquing bolts/nuts to specifications.
