Fluid Filter - A/T: Service and Repair
4L80-E Automatic Transmission

REMOVAL PROCEDURE 

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
2. Place a drain pan under the transmission oil pan.
3. Remove the oil pan drain plug.
4. Remove the oil pan bolts from the oil pan.

5. Remove the oil pan, the gasket, and the magnet.

6. Remove the oil filter and the multi-lip seal. The seal may be stuck in the pump.
7. Inspect the filter: Pry open the filter and look inside for the following evidence of root cause diagnosis:

Clutch Material

-

Bronze slivers indicating bushing wear

-

Steel particles

8. Clean the transmission case and the oil pan gasket surfaces with solvent. Air dry the transmission case.
9. Remove all traces of old gasket material.

J36850 Transjel Transmission Assembly Lubricant

1. Lubricate lightly a new oil filter neck seal assembly. Use J36850 or equivalent.
