Rear

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 43631 Ball Joint Separator

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the caliper. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement - Rear in Brakes and Traction Control.
4. Remove the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Brakes and Traction Control.
5. Remove the wheel stud from the axle flange using the J 43631 (15 series).
6. Remove the axle shaft (25 series vehicles with 9.5 in ring gear). Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (8 1/2, 9 1/2 Ring Gear) or Axle Shaft

Replacement (10 1/2 Ring Gear) in Rear Drive Axle.

7. Remove the rear hub assembly (25 series vehicles with 10.5 in ring gear). Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (8 1/2, 9 1/2 Ring Gear or Axle Shaft

Replacement (10 1/2 Ring Gear) in Rear Drive Axle.

8. Remove the wheel stud from the axle flange using the J43631.
9. Remove the wheel stud from the hub flange using the J43631.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the stud into the axle flange (15 Series).
2. Install the 4 washers and the lug nut to the stud.
3. Tighten the lug nut in order to draw the stud into the flange until the stud fully seats.
4. Remove the lug nut and the washers.
5. Install the axle shaft (25 Series vehicles with 9.5 in ring gear). Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (8 1/2, 9 1/2 Ring Gear) or Axle Shaft

Replacement (10 1/2 Ring Gear) in Rear Drive Axle.

6. Install the rear hub assembly (25 series vehicles with10.5 in ring gear). Refer to Axle Shaft Replacement (8 1/2, 9 1/2 Ring Gear) or Axle Shaft

Replacement (10 1/2 Ring Gear) in Rear Drive Axle.

7. Install the rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Brakes and Traction Control.
