Valve Guide Seal: Service and Repair

HEAD ON ENGINE

1.

Remove camshaft carrier as outlined under CAMSHAFT CARRIER.

2.

Remove spark plugs and install spark plug port adapter tool No. J-22794, or equivalent, and apply compressed air to hold valves in place.

3.

Compress valve spring using valve spring compressor tool No. J-38606, or equivalent.

4.

Remove valve stem locks and release spring tension.

5.

Remove valve cap, valve spring and valve stem oil seal. Wrap tape over valve lock grooves to prevent damage to valve seals.

6.

Reverse procedure to install.

HEAD OFF ENGINE

1.

Compress valve spring using valve spring compressor tool No. J-38606, or equivalent.

2.

Remove valve stem locks and release spring tension.

3.

Remove valve cap, valve spring and valve stem oil seal. Wrap tape over valve lock grooves to prevent damage to valve seals.

4.

Reverse procedure to install.
