Intermediate Shaft: Service and Repair
Balance Shaft Assembly Replace
1. Remove engine assembly as outlined under Engine.
2. Remove oil pump drive assembly as outlined under Oil Pump. Refer to Engine Lubrication.
3. Remove timing chain as outlined under Timing Chain.
4. Remove intermediate shaft thrust plate and screws.
5. Remove intermediate shaft. All intermediate shaft journals are the same diameter and care should be taken not to damage bearings or
journals during removal.
6. Remove intermediate shaft bearing using bearing remover/installer tool No. J-33049, or equivalent.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align oil holes in bearing with oil holes in cylinder block. install oil feed holes at 4 and 7 o'clock for front bearing and 4 o'clock for bearings 2,
3 and 4.
b. Apply oil to intermediate shaft journals prior to installation.
c. Replace O-ring seal after sprocket installation.
