Proper Parallel Alignment Of The Timing Chain Assembly
Pressing On Crankshaft Sprocket
SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalents)

J-8433, Universal puller bridge.
^
J-38611, Special legs and protector.
^
J-38612, Crankshaft gear installer.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Front cover, refer to Timing Cover / Service and Repair.
2. Retract timing chain tensioner, refer to Timing Chain Tensioner / Service and Repair.
3. Timing chain tensioner bolts.
4. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
5. Timing chain, crankshaft sprocket, and intermediate shaft sprocket as an assembly, using J-8433 and J-38611 on crankshaft sprocket.
NOTE: If intermediate gear does not slide off easily with timing chain, rotate the crankshaft back and forth to help loosen the tight fit.
6. Timing chain tensioner.
7. Inspect crankshaft alignment key for burrs or marks that could effect assembly.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Make sure crankshaft key is installed and fully seated and chain tensioner installed and blade retracted.
