Ignition Lock: Description and Operation
Due to the column shift lock mechanism, the shift lever will not move under any of the following conditions:
^
The shift lever is in the P position.
^
The ignition switch is locked.
All of the floor shift models use a park lock system. This system uses a flexible cable actuator. The actuator attaches at one end to the shift lever and
to the column mounted ignition switch. The actuator actuates a locking pin at the other end. The locking pin engages an ignition switch sliding contact
when the shift lever is in one of the following positions:
^
R
^
N
^
D

The ignition switch does not allow the ignition switch slider to move to the Lock position. When the shift lever is in P and the ignition switch is in
slider is in LOCK the locking pin engages a can on the flexible cable. This action prevents the shift lever from moving to another position.
