Lumina V6-3.8L VIN K (1998)
NOTICE: Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set
ignition switch to LOCK position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.
13. Position plastic cover and intermediate shaft bolt (pinch bolt).
14. Lower vehicle.
15. Reservoir inlet hose to pump.
Tighten
-
Reservoir inlet hose to 27 N.m (20 ft. lbs.).
16. Tie straps to hose.
17. Engine mount strut at engine.
18. Fill power steering pump reservoir with fluid.
19. Bleed power steering system.
Inspect
-
For leaks. Refer to Testing and Inspection.
Return Pipe
Remove or Disconnect
1. Coolant recovery reservoir and set aside.
2. Accessory drive belt.
CAUTION: Siphon power steering fluid from reservoir before disconnecting lines to avoid spilling fluid on secondary timing belt cover.
Use shop rags when disconnecting lines to insure any remaining fluid does NOT contact secondary timing belt cover. Power steering fluid
can damage the secondary timing belt.
3. Power steering line clamp at front cover.
4. Power steering return pipe from reservoir hose.
5. Power steering high pressure pipe from pump.
6. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
7. Right front wheel and tire.
8. Loosen right side engine splash shield.
9. Right tie rod end from steering knuckle, using J 35917.
10. Return hose clamp and hose from return pipe.
11. Lower vehicle.
12. Return pipe from vehicle.
Install or Connect
NOTICE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for that application. Fasteners
requiring replacement of fasteners requiring thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints,
lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping
force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to
parts and system.
1. Pipe in position.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Return hose and clamp to pipe, tighten clamp.
4. Right tie rod nut and tie rod.
5. Tighten right side engine splash shield.
6. Right front wheel and tire.
7. Lower vehicle.
8. Return pipe to reservoir hose, tighten clamp.
9. High pressure pipe to pump.
10. Power steering lines clamp to front cover.
11. Accessory drive belt.
12. Coolant recovery reservoir.
13. Fill system.
14. Bleed power steering system.
Inspect

For leaks. Refer to Testing and Inspection.
