CAUTION:  Failure to disconnect intermediate shaft from rack and pinion stub shaft can result in damage to steering gear and/or
intermediate shaft. This damage can cause loss of steering control which could result in personal injury.

NOTICE:  Set steering shaft so block tooth on upper steering shaft is at the 12 o'clock position, wheels on vehicle are straight ahead and set
ignition switch to LOCK position. Failure to follow these procedures could result in damage to the coil.

Intermediate Shaft To Steering Gear

4. Intermediate shaft from stub shaft.

NOTICE:  Use only the recommended tools for separating tie rod ends from knuckle/strut. Failure to use recommended tools may cause damage
to the tie rod and seal.

5. Both tie rod ends from knuckle/strut using J 35917.
6. Support the rear of the frame using jackstands.

NOTICE:  Do not lower rear of frame too far as damage to engine components nearest to the cowl may result.

7. Rear frame bolts and lower rear of frame. 
8. Heat shield screws and heat shield.
9. Pipe retaining clip from steering gear.

10. Inlet pipes and outlet line at steering gear.
11. Remaining brackets and clips.
12. Rack and pinion mounting bolts and nuts.
13. Rack and pinion through left wheel opening.

Install or Connect

NOTICE:  Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be correct part number for that application. Fasteners
requiring replacement of fasteners requiring thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints,
lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping
force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to
parts and system.

1. Rack and pinion through left wheel opening.
2. Rack and pinion mounting bolts and nuts.

Tighten
-

Bolts to 80 N.m (59 ft. lbs.).

3. Retaining brackets and clips.
4. Inlet pipe and outlet line fittings and seals to steering gear.

Inspect

-

O-rings, replace as necessary.

Tighten
-

Fittings to 27 N.m (20 ft. lbs.).

5. Pipe retaining clip to steering gear.
6. Front heat shield and screws.
