Steering Wheel: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable.

2.

Using a thin blade screwdriver, gently pry top of horn pad away from the steering wheel.

3.

Disconnect horn lead and electrical connectors if equipped with Steering Wheel Controls (SWC).

4.

Remove horn lead and spring from cancelling cam tower by gently pushing down on horn lead and turning left.

5.

Remove steering wheel retainer and nut, then scribe mark onto steering wheel and shaft for assembly reference.

6.

Use steering wheel pulling tool No. J 1859-03 and remove steering wheel, Fig. 1. On models equipped with Steering Wheel Controls (SWC),
care should be taken so that the electronic circuits will not be damaged. When using pulling tool No. J 1859-03 on these models, puller
bolts should not be turned more than five turns.

Reverse procedure to install, align mark and torque nut to 30 ft. lbs.
