LIFT GATE KEY CYLINDER WON'T RETURN TO NORMAL POSITION/ EXCESSIVE MOVEMENT OF CYLINDER (INSTALL
REINFORCEMENT)

CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that their lift gate key cylinder won't return to normal position or there is excessive movement of the cylinder without key
installed.
CAUSE:
Over torquing the key cylinder may strip out the SMC (Sheet Molded Compound) that retains the key cylinder in the lift gate.
CORRECTION:
1.
Remove lift gate trim and water deflector.
2.
Remove rear high mount stop lamp as a precaution for following step that requires drilling.
3.
Remove the bell crank bracket to gain access to the key cylinder.
4.
For power lift gates, make sure the power door lock actuator is fully seated on the key cylinder. Proceed to Step 6.

For manual rear lift gates with a power door lock actuator attached to the key cylinder, fully seat the actuator to the key cylinder and proceed
to Step 6.
