Thermostat: Service and Repair

Thermostat And Housing

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Engine coolant, partially.  
3. Air filter assembly.
4. Radiator hose from thermostat housing.
5. Engine coolant.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Clean inlet and outlet manifold mating surfaces.
2. Thermostat
3. Thermostat housing to inlet manifold with new gasket.
4. Bolts to thermostat housing with RTV sealer GM P/N 1052336 or equivalent.

Tighten bolts to 27 Nm (20 lbs. ft.). 

5. Radiator hose to thermostat housing.
6. Air filter.
7. Engine coolant.
8. Negative battery cable.

-

Tighten to 15 Nm (11 lbs. ft.).
