Brake Master Cylinder: Service and Repair

Master Cylinder Bench Bleeding

1. Fill the reservoir with brake fluid. Ensure that the reservoir remains full throughout the entire bleeding process.
2. Install adapters into each master cylinder outlet port.
3. Attach a piece of rubber tubing to each adapter. Submerge the other end of the rubber tubing in the reservoir. Ensure that the tubes remain

submerged in the fluid.

4. Use a wooden or plastic dowel in order to slowly push in the master cylinder piston and release. Repeat the procedure until there is no sign of air

(bubbles) in the brake fluid.

Master Cylinder Covers/Caps Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE  

CAUTION:  Certain components in the Antilock Brake System (ABS) are not intended to be serviced individually. Attempting to remove or
disconnect certain system components may result in personal injury and/or improper system operation.  Only those component with
approved removal and installation procedures should be serviced.  

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Clean the outside of the reservoir.
3. Disconnect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
4. Remove the reservoir cap. Siphon the fluid from the reservoir.
5. Remove the reservoir pin (3) using a hammer and a punch.

6. Remove the reservoir (1) and the grommets (3) from the master cylinder (4).
