8. Separate tie rod ends from right and left steering knuckles using J 21687-02.
Steering Gear Mounting Brackets
9. Steering gear from bulkhead by removing four bolts from steering gear mounting brackets.
10. Steering gear from vehicle through front wheel opening.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Steering gear to vehicle through the front wheel opening. Secure to bulkhead with mounting brackets and four bolts.
Tighten

Steering gear mounting bracket bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
2. Right and left tie rod ends to steering knuckles.
3. Castle nuts to tie rod ends. Align holes for cotter pin while tightening castle nuts to specification.
Tighten
^
Tie rod end castle nuts to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
4. Right and left cotter pins. Bend pin ends to secure.
5. Both front wheels.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Lower steering shaft joint bolt, connecting shaft to pinion.
Tighten
^
Upper and lower steering shaft joint bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
8. Steering shaft joint plastic cover by hand.
9. Reposition drivers-side floor carpet.
