Strut Cartridge: Service and Repair
CAUTION: Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
Inspect the strut cartridge by pushing the piston rod down. Check that the pull is even throughout the stroke, and that there is no abnormal resistance or
noise.
Inspect the travel by pushing the piston rod in fully, then release the piston rod. Check that the piston rod returns at a constant speed throughout its travel.
Important: The gas in the strut cartridge is colorless, odorless and nonpoisonous.
If the cartridge must be replaced, drill a hole to 3 mm (0.079-0.118 in) diameter at the base to release the gas inside of the cartridge.
